‘That’s their event’ — Kerr defers to players on reported alternative plans for DC trip

OAKLAND — On the heels of an ESPN report that the Warriors will meet with local kids in Washington D.C. in lieu of paying a visit to the White House, Steve Kerr declined to address the situation.

“It’s the players’ [plan],” Kerr said during his pregame press on Thursday before the matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers.

“It was their decision to make the arrangements that we’ve made,” Kerr added. “So, if they want to talk about it, they can talk about it, but that’s their event.”

Per ESPN, the plan for Feb. 27 is as follows:

“The reigning NBA champs have decided to go on a private tour of an undisclosed locale on Feb. 27 in their lone visit to the nation’s capital, league sources told ESPN.”

The Warriors, one of the most outspoken clubs in sports when it comes to social topics, had never expressed an interest in visiting Trump — even before the president withdrew the invitation via his Twitter account.

“Head coach Steve Kerr left it up to the players to determine how they wanted to spend their time, and the players selected a venue in which local kids would join them. It will be closed off to the media, sources said.”
