OK, so Taylor Swift’s new tune “Look What You Made Me Do” has broken single-day streaming records, beating Adele, Ed Sheeran, The Chainsmokers and Coldplay with tens of millions of hits on YouTube, Spotify and heaven knows where else.
We won’t go into the numbers, but the video’s director Joseph Kahn on Twitter told Swift’s fans, “You are all amazing.”
Scholarship is equally daunting: Commentators are going bonkers with explanations over virtually every frame, from the opening with Nils Sjoberg on the tombstone (a reference to her pseudonym songwriting credit for the tune by her ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris) to her Michael Jackson “Thriller” tribute, and being a zombie wearing the blue dress from her “Out of the Woods” video.
Her 2014 Met Gala outfit, an Oscar de la Renta gown, also makes an noteworthy appearance. And dancers wearing crop tops that say “I heart TS” reference the famous TV shirt her ex Tom Hiddleston wore in 2016.
Then there’s the single dollar in the bathtub of diamonds, a nod to her recent winning case against David Mueller, the DJ who grabbed her bottom during a meet-and-greet in 2013.
As for her rival Katy Perry, she’s covered via a buzz cut Taylor wears, similar to Perry’s current look, and at one point, Taylor holds a Grammy — something Katy hasn’t won.
References to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian come in the form of snakes, and in the final scene, when one of Taylor’s many personas says “I’d very much like to be excluded from this narrative,” repeating the line from her beef with Kimye over the hit “Famous.”
Scarily, these tidbits represent just the tip of the iceberg.
Justin Bieber’s trip to a hospital after a soccer injury — which caused one of his testicles to twist — has set off legal action between the hospital and a fired employee.
TMZ reports that a staffer named Kelly Lombardo found out about the pop star’s emergency visit to Northwell Health in Long Island, New York, and allegedly accessed his medical records in a computer file after hearing rumors he was admitted for an STD.
According to the lawsuit, the hospital fired Lombardo for being “immoral” and violating Bieber’s privacy.
In response, Lombardo has filed a wrongful termination suit, claiming she didn’t get his file, but heard from others he was there.
