Five dogs rescued from burning house in San Jose

Firefighters rescued five dogs from a burning house in San Jose on Sunday evening, a dispatcher said. Crews responded to reports of smoke coming from the side of a single-family home on the 2300 block of Carlton Avenue, dispatcher Brenda Jaime said. Arriving firefighters put out the fire by about 8 p.m., Jaime said. No injuries were reported, but five dogs were rescued from the garage of the home. 2.6-magnitude earthquake shakes Santa Clara County foothills

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 struck this afternoon in Santa Clara County.The quake shook an area in the foothills east of San Jose at 5:30 p.m. and had a depth of 3.9 miles, according to the USGS. The tremor was centered about six miles east of Alum Rock and about 10 miles east of San Jose City Hall.     Read More

HIV kits stolen from San Jose found in San Francisco’s McLaren Park

Boxes of HIV test kits that had been stolen in San Jose were discovered in a San Francisco park on Wednesday, police said.Cops got a call about the boxes of medical supplies that had been found at McLaren Park, near Russia and La Grande avenues, around 5:30 a.m.An officer recovered the HIV test kits, which had been stolen earlier that morning, police said.  The company that shipped the boxes was notified as well as the San Jose Police Department, police said. Small airplace crashes at San Jose airport

A single-engine airplane crashed at Reid-Hillview Airport on Sunday afternoon and the lone occupant made it out safely, according to a San Jose public safety dispatcher. The Lancer aircraft touched down at about 1 p.m. and only sustained minor damage, according to dispatcher Brenda Jaime.
