San Jose police officers have tentatively agreed to continue a 10 percent pay cut for the next fiscal year to prevent additional layoffs, the San Jose Police Officers' Association announced Wednesday.
The union said the agreement would save the city $25 million.
"The police officers of this city are stepping up to the plate once again to help San Jose through these difficult fiscal times," Jim Unland, president of the Police Officers' Association, said in a statement.

An Occupy San Jose protester was allegedly attacked by a group of people in a fight early Sunday morning, police said.Around 1:40 a.m., officers saw a fight at the intersection of East Santa Clara and Fourth streets. They intervened and arrested Anthony Armenta, 27, of San Jose on suspicion of assaulting, battering and fighting with a 39-year-old Occupy participant.

A man on the tracks was struck by a Caltrain vehicle this morning, resulting in delays for northbound passengers.
The incident happened at about 7:45 a.m. near Virginia Street in San Jose. The man was transported to a local hospital. There is no further information about the extent of his injuries.
Due to the incident, two Caltrain lines — the 329 and 227 — have been delayed.

A San Jose man took part in a San Francisco Police Department sting to win back his bicycle on Friday.The 27-year-old victim told cops that his $1,200 bicycle was stolen from Pier 39 on Oct. 23, police at Park Station said. An armed suspect was shot and injured by a police officer shooting at a San Jose hotel this morning, a police spokesman said.Officers responded to reports of an armed man at the Extended Stay Hotel at 55 E. Brokaw Road at about 7:45 a.m., San Jose police Officer Jose Garcia said.Responding officers found the suspect who displayed “threatening behavior,” prompting one officer to shoot at the suspect in self-defense, Garcia said.
