Culminating a decade of growth, passenger traffic at San Francisco International Airport reached an all-time high last fiscal year, finally eclipsing the marks set during the first dot-com boom.
Some 21.4 million passengers boarded flights at SFO during the year that ended in June, besting the previous high of 20.2 million set in 2000.
“This is a very significant moment for the airport,” SFO spokesman Michael McCarron said.

Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer for Berkeley punk band Green Day, has said he was removed from a Southwest Airlines flight because he was wearing saggy pants.
The singer posted an item on his Twitter account Thursday around 7 p.m. stating that he had just been kicked off a Southwest flight "because my pants sagged too low!"

A Southwest Airlines pilot didn’t realize his cockpit microphone was temporarily stuck open when he ranted at his co-pilot about how ugly and unsatisfactory as shack-up partners his flight attendants were. His entire monologue was transmitted over the main air traffic control frequency as controllers and other pilots tried unsuccessfully to break in and shut him up. The airline suspended the pilot without pay, ordered him into sensitivity training and has now put him back in the cockpit.

Boeing CEO Jim McNerney said a “workmanship issue” and not poor design led to a hole ripping open in a Southwest Airlines plane. Federal investigators reported that when Boeing built the plane 15 years ago, holes drilled in the fuselage were too big for the rivets and improperly lined up, eventually causing metal fatigue. Boeing’s current manufacturing is also under investigation because Japan Airlines found metal filings in fuel tanks of a new Boeing 767.

A Los Angeles-bound Southwest Airlines flight that took off from San Francisco International Airport on Friday night made an emergency landing in Oakland due to a possible engine fire, an airline spokesman said.
