The California Highway Patrol is reporting an increase in the Bay Area and statewide in the number drunken driving arrests during the Thanksgiving weekend.The good news is that there were no alcohol-related deaths on CHP-patrolled roadways in the Bay Area, according to provisional numbers released by the CHP on Sunday. Last year, five people died in DUI-related crashes in the region.

As residents call for safer streets, police in the northwestern portion of The City are leading the pack in making arrests for drunken driving and driving while talking on a cell phone.
So far in 2010, police in the district have made arrests or handed out citations in 42 drunken driving incidents, about 20 percent of The City’s 10-district total.
