A man who was one of two people found fatally stabbed in a burning home in Oakland two weeks ago was identified by police today as 73-year-old John Gilbert Navaerette, of Oakland.The bodies were found when firefighters responded to a fire at a two-story building in the 3100 block of Coolidge Avenue at about 1 a.m. on Sept. 11, police said.Navaerette and 56-year-old Renee Washington were found in a residential unit on the second floor.

One person was killed and another was critically injured in a shooting near Children’s Hospital in Oakland this morning, a police spokeswoman said.The shooting was reported around 11 a.m. in the 800 block of 52nd Street, about a block and a half from the hospital, spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.Two victims, both males, were struck by the gunfire. A victim with multiple gunshot wounds drove about four blocks to an Oakland police substation before he was taken to a hospital this morning, an Oakland police officer said.Around 3:50 a.m., the victim had been shot multiple times near 69th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard.
