Sack-happy defensive end J.J. Watt went out for a couple of passes as a wide receiver, retiring center Jeff Saturday snapped to two Mannings on opposite teams and the NFC blew past the AFC 62-35 in a Pro Bowl that could be the league’s last.
Whether the NFL’s all-star game will return or not is a question league officials will ponder the next few months. And the players gave plenty to consider on both sides of the argument Sunday.

The defense of the 49ers has been the backbone of the team’s success for the past two seasons, and Wednesday, it was handsomely rewarded.
San Francisco led all NFL teams with nine players selected to the Pro Bowl team, including six from the league’s second-ranked defense.

The 49ers’ winning season got a little sweeter Tuesday, as eight players were selected to the Pro Bowl, the most from any NFC team and tied with the New England Patriots for most in the NFL.
Linebacker Patrick Willis, running back Frank Gore, defensive tackle Justin Smith, kicker David Akers and punter Andy Lee each make a return to the game, while safety Dashon Goldson, cornerback Carlos Rogers and tackle Joe Staley were selected for the first time.

MVP DeAngelo Hall had one of his team's five interceptions and returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown to help the NFC match a Pro Bowl scoring record in a 55-41 victory over turnover-prone AFC in a game that was not nearly as interesting as the final would indicate.AFC quarterbacks Philip Rivers, Peyton Manning and Matt Cassel each threw first-half interceptions to help the NFC blow open a 42-0 lead in a performance ugly even by the historically low standards of this game.

Great idea moving the Pro Bowl to the same city as the Super Bowl. Smart too, to schedule the game the week before the Super Bowl. Now all the NFL needs to do is find a reason for anyone to tune in to Sunday’s all-star charade.
