Police collect hundreds of guns in buyback program in San Francisco, Oakland

Hundreds of firearms have been taken off the streets of Oakland and San Francisco in a gun buyback program that Oakland police Officer Johnna Watson described as a “huge success.” In exchange for $200 in cash, Oakland officers collected 300 guns, while San Francisco police collected 290 during Saturday’s holiday gun buyback program, Watson said Sunday. Did White House know about the firearm scandal in Mexico?

Operation Fast and Furious is a growing scandal. Attorney General Eric Holder must go, but Congress should not stop investigating there, and it needs to ask if Democratic operatives knew anything. Fast and Furious is the latest variation of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosivess Operation Gunrunner, which allowed U.S. firearms to go to Mexico. Carlos Santana’s pitch is out of tune with San Francisco Arts Committee

A public art installation promoted by San Francisco rock legend Carlos Santana and designed by two local artists would have brought a message of peace to the new police headquarters in Mission Bay. They envisioned a statue of a black angel, perhaps a victim of violence. It would be fashioned from melted guns confiscated through good police work. And at the angel’s feet would be an interactive boombox playing songs of peace, including an original tune from Santana. Read More

ATF fires back at whistle-blower

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is under fire for allegedly retaliating against a whistle-blower on Project Gunrunner, the  failed sting that sent thousands of high-powered guns across the border to Mexican drug gangs. Vince Cefalu, a 24-year ATF agent based in Dublin, Calif., has been fired after speaking out about the scandal on television and in testimony before the House Oversight Committee chaired by California Congressman Darrell Issa. Teenage boy seen aiming assault rifle at passers-by in San Francisco

A 14-year-old Oakland boy was seen aiming an assault rifle at random people in San Francisco on Monday afternoon, police said Tuesday. Shocked citizens called cops around 4:10 p.m. saying the boy had a gun with a sniper scope trained on people in the area of San Jose Avenue and 30th Street. He was apparently pointing the gun at people as they walked past him on the sidewalk, an Ingleside Station police officer said. Read More

Feds allow hundreds of US guns to get to Mexican cartels

South Dakotans push for a new individual mandate: Buy a gun

Five state legislators in South Dakota have introduced a bill that would require all state residents over the age of 21 to purchase a firearm that is “suitable to their temperament, physical capacity, and preference…[and]  sufficient to provide for their ordinary self-defense.” Read More
