Sea lion rescued from Bay Area freeway was shot in the head

A sea lion who was rescued after crossing U.S. Highway 101 in Burlingame on Saturday is still recovering from the incident -- as well as from an apparent gunshot wound. Named "Broadway Bound" for the route she took toward the Highway 101 Broadway off-ramp on Saturday, veterinarians have determined that the sea lion is female and that she recently suffered a bullet wound to her face, Marine Mammal Center spokesman Jim Oswald said Monday. Three-car crash near Octavia Boulevard off-ramp slows traffic

California Highway Patrol officers are responding Thursday to a three-vehicle minor-injury crash near a U.S. Highway 101 off-ramp in San Francisco, a CHP officer said.A witness reported the crash near Octavia Boulevard and Market Street at 6:52 a.m. and CHP units were on the scene by 7 a.m., CHP Officer Eric Anderson said.Although the crash is currently blocking the fast lane, the CHP estimates that the vehicles will be clearing shortly. Doubling the traffic fines on city streets that also serve as highways does not prevent car crashes and pedestrian accidents on the busy thoroughfares, according to new statistics.
