Youths sought after daunting jail escape

Two youths pulled off a daunting escape from a San Francisco juvenile detention facility Tuesday night by reportedly squeezing through a square-foot-size window and making it over a 20-foot barbed-wire fence. The boys, ages 12 and 16, escaped from the Juvenile Justice Center at 375 Woodside Ave. about 9:40 p.m. and were still on the loose Wednesday despite a thorough police search that lasted until 2 a.m., authorities said. Tablet thieves' new strategy not modern

Call it the iDash.  A thief in Belmont struck two electronics stores within minutes Monday afternoon, in each case asking a clerk to see a tablet computer before fleeing with the device in a getaway minivan.  The robberies at the RadioShack at 870 Ralston Ave. and the GameStop at 1200 El Camino Real occurred at about 3 p.m., according to Belmont police. At least three suspects were seen in the fleeing vehicle. maldax@sfexaminer.com Read More

Group detained after allegedly shooting at cops

One person was arrested and seven others detained after shots were fired at an unmarked police car near India Basin early Tuesday morning, Officer Albie Esparza said. Leafaitulagi Ioani, 18, of San Francisco was arrested on suspicion of driving without a license and evading police after she and two other drivers sped off after the shooting, Esparza said. Poor grades turns Academy of Art student into thief

Poor grades apparently caused an Academy of Art University student to steal a bicycle from one of his school’s campuses, according to police. The thief was reportedly captured on video March 26 swiping a Fuji bike from the campus at 601 Brannan St. On April 4, police said, a “very observant” security guard spotted the suspect and identified him as a student. Man shot won't talk to police

A man was gunned down in the Lower Pac Heights neighborhood in San Francisco early Sunday morning, but there's not much police can do about it.The 47-year-old victim was in the 1500 block of Broderick Street about 9:45 p.m. when another unidentified man shot him.  Police had no more information on the crime since the victim was reportedly uncooperative with their investigation. Teen shot outside Powell Street BART station is in critical condition

Six men were arrested in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy near Hallidie Plaza and the Powell Street BART station about 7 p.m. Friday evening, police said Monday. The group of men first assaulted the victim, then one shot the boy in the arm and torso before the group fled. The teen’s injuries are considered life-threatening, but his condition was unknown as of Monday. Read More

Man knocked out, stabbed near San Francisco Civic Center

A man was knocked out and stabbed near the Civic Center on Wednesday, police said.The 35-year-old victim was reportedly punched and fell unconscious in the 600 block of Larkin Street about 8:30 p.m., police said. When he woke up, he had been stabbed in the leg.He was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries, which were not life threatening. Read More
