Search for shooter in Financial District continues; victim taken to hospital for injuries

A daytime shooting in South Beach neighborhood sent one man to the hospital with a chest wound and shut down Market Street in downtown for more than an hour Thursday afternoon after the victim and his driver tried to find help in the Financial District. The shooting, which occurred just after 3:45 p.m. Thursday, happened in the first block of Bryant Street, near The Embarcadero. The victim was described by police as a man in his 30s. Read More

Sunday Streets kicks off along The Embarcadero this weekend

San Franciscans will be taking to the streets this weekend as The City kicks off a new season of Sunday Streets.Started in 2008 by former Mayor Gavin Newsom, Sunday Streets is a city-sponsored event in which roads are closed to traffic to make way for pedestrians, bicyclists and special activities.This week’s event will be held along The Embarcadero, between Fisherman’s Wharf and Mission Bay, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., organizers said. Lower speed limits may be in store for portions of The Embarcadero

Motorists travelling on The Embarcadero could soon be in for some slower speed limits.At its meeting today, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s Board of Directors could approve a measure to reduce the speed limit on portions of The Embarcadero from 35 mph to 30 mph.The new limits would go into affect on the shoreline road between Bay and King streets, and on King Street between Fifth Street and The Embarcadero, according to SFMTA documents.
