Drew Mickel heard the blast while he was sipping on an Anchor Steam in the bar at the Westin Copley Place Boston hotel. He had just completed his 16th straight Boston Marathon and was celebrating with his Olympic Club friends roughly 350 feet away from the finish line.

Early risers on Sunday will have a chance to catch an unusual and inspiring sight in the hours leading up to the San Francisco Marathon.
A wave of runners clad in blue shirts will flow through The City, running their own 26.2 miles before joining the rest of the general population to complete an ultra marathon. Supporters of “Wear Blue: Run to Remember” will gather at midnight at Golden Gate National Cemetery at midnight to begin the 2012 CPT John L. Hallett III Ultra Marathon.

Running has taken a high toll on Kristy Seymour, but it never occurred to her to quit.
“I’m not going to give up,” the 32-year-old Princeton, N.J., native vowed Sunday after completing the San Francisco Marathon. “It’s part of who I am.”
That resolve came in handy as Seymour sped up and down The City’s slopes to finish the race with an unofficial time of 3:37:19.

A marathon, music festival and street fair will make for a busy weekend in San Francisco, resulting in several street closures and Muni-line alterations.
The San Francisco Marathon will kick off at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, with runners traversing The Embarcadero through the Marina district and onto the Golden Gate Bridge before looping back through Golden Gate Park and the South of Market area, finishing near AT&T Park.
