A group that promotes the responsible consumption of alcohol is asking San Francisco not to demonize hard liquor by tying it to rowdiness after sporting events.
Last week, Mayor Ed Lee said that although San Francisco will not ban liquor sales, he is encouraging bars to limit sales or serve it in a responsible manner. The American Beverage Institute responded Monday in a statement that asked The City “to avoid demonizing a perfectly legal product.”

Soon after arriving in New Orleans for the Super Bowl late Monday afternoon, the Baltimore Ravens found out exactly why this football game is different from all the rest.
Coach John Harbaugh and several players were surrounded by hundreds of members of the media at the team hotel, and there were still plenty of questions to be asked before Harbaugh, then the players, were whisked away by Ravens officials.

Jim Harbaugh stepped to the podium, smirked a bit, and greeted his first news conference as a Super Bowl coach.
“We’re super happy to be here,” he said Sunday night as his NFC champion San Francisco 49ers arrived in the Big Easy for the big game.
“I think this team has the best focus on unity and winning I’ve ever been a part of.”

Alex Smith ran off the field at Candlestick Park two weeks ago to a standing ovation and cheers from the sellout crowd, not much different from the reception last January when he took the 49ers oh so close to a Super Bowl.
Now relegated to a backup role with the NFC champions, Smith’s trip to the Big Easy this week leading up to Sunday’s Super Bowl against Baltimore is hardly how he envisioned it.
This used to be his team. Now, he plays Joe Flacco in practice.
