The New York Times cited her son, Jacob Bernstein, as saying Ephron died of pneumonia brought about by acute myeloid leukemia. Bernstein is a freelance reporter for the Times.

A man was struck and killed by a westbound Amtrak train Sunday afternoon, according to Martinez police.
The collision was reported around 1:15 p.m. Responding officers found the adult male victim dead at the scene.

A man was struck and killed by a Caltrain at the Lawrence train station in Sunnyvale, an agency spokeswoman said.
At about 6:45 p.m., southbound train No. 274 struck the man, spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said. The 125 passengers who were aboard that train were transported to a rescue train that continued to San Jose. Trains were stopped in both directions for a period of time until trains began single-tracking through the affected area.

Caltrain struck and killed a man on the tracks Thursday afternoon in what officials said was a likely suicide, the second such death for the transit agency in as many days.
The man was hit by a southbound train near Bellevue Avenue in San Mateo at about 4:30 p.m., according to Caltrain. The train came to a stop at the San Mateo station, where passengers were able to disembark.
