A spokesman for the Menlo Park Fire Protection District has confirmed one fatality at a residence that went up in flames early this morning.

A woman who died after being swept underwater by a wave at Sharp Park Beach in Pacifica this afternoon has been identified by the San Mateo County coroner's office as 44-year-old San Carlos resident Grelia Smith.
Shortly before 1:45 p.m., Pacifica police officers and members of the North County Fire Department responded to a report of a possible drowning.

San Francisco recorded its first pedestrian fatality Thursday when a driver hit and killed a woman in a crosswalk along a busy residential road near West Portal.
At about 6:23 p.m. Wednesday, 54-year-old Feng Zhu of San Francisco was walking north on Sloat Boulevard near Forest View Drive when she was hit and killed in an unlit crosswalk, according to police. A body was found early this morning near San Francisco's Potrero Hill neighborhood, police said.
Units responded to the area of Cesar Chavez Street and Pennsylvania Avenue where police received a call reporting a body had been seen at around 1:45 a.m.

A female pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday night at Van Ness Avenue and Bush Street in San Francisco, a police spokeswoman said.
The victim was hit at about 9:15 p.m. and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after
