A good Samaritan really stuck his leg out Wednesday -- literally -- to help a woman who was robbed of her iPhone on a Muni bus when he reportedly tripped the fleeing robber in UN Plaza, leading to his arrest.Police responded to the plaza on a battery call and found that nearby security officers had detained the accused mugger. All things must come to an end — including BART protests.The seventh consecutive planned demonstration called by the online hacker group Anonymous officially fizzled Monday when only three protesters came to the UN Plaza and Civic Center station.Barbara Bettenburg, 61, of San Francisco was one of the three. General Services Administration to move into empty building at San Francisco's Civic Center

A federal building shuttered since 2007 at The City’s Civic Center is on its way to becoming a functional office again for government workers, according to the U.S. General Services Administration. By early 2014, the building known as 50 U.N. Plaza will get a $122 million facelift and serve as the main office for GSA’s Pacific Rim Region. For two decades, Modesto-based Raymond Young Poultry has been a fixture at the Heart of the City Farmers’ Market at UN Plaza, selling live chickens for food. But in recent years, animal-rights activists also have become fixtures at the popular downtown bazaar. The controversy: Activists object to the treatment of the chickens. Renovation to revitalize Civic Center

A major green project city officials say will help revitalize the downtrodden Civic Center area and boost local employment will be spearheaded by a San Francisco company. Downtown-based Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction Co. recently netted a $3.37 million contract to help renovate and modernize the 73-year-old building at 50 United Nations Plaza, which has been vacant since 2007, spokeswoman Gene Gibson said.
