Taliban fighters are ratcheting up attacks on secured Afghan government facilities and U.S. military bases as their spring offensive gets underway. Early Monday morning insurgents infiltrated Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry in Kabul, and killed several soldiers before security personnel were able to kill the attackers, according to reports from the region. The recent uproar about the high earnings of city officials in Bell has prompted municipalities in San Mateo County and throughout the state to release salary information to the public.A League of California Cities survey released this month displays self-reported compensation information for city managers in the 468 cities and towns that have managers, including 18 in San Mateo County. Metro reports shooting outside Pentagon station

WASHINGTON (AP) — A spokesman says two Pentagon police officers have been shot at the subway entrance to the military complex. Pentagon police spokesman Chris Layman says the alleged gunman was also wounded. None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening. Layman says that at this point all they know is that the suspect approached the Metro subway entrance and opened fire. Read More
