The dead body of a man was found Saturday morning near a drainage pipe at Fort Funston Park, according to the U.S. Park Service.A person walking a dog on the beach discovered the body in the surf under 1 to 2 feet of water at about 7:20 a.m. U.S. Park authorities and San Francisco police responded and brought the body above the surf line, according to Alexandra Picavet, a spokeswoman for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Man carjacked while stopped at light at Van Ness

A man was carjacked while stopped at a red light on San Francisco's Van Ness Avenue early this morning, police said. The carjacking was reported at about 1:45 a.m. at Van Ness Avenue and Clay Street, according to police. The 26-year-old victim stopped his white 2005 Cadillac Deville at the intersection and was approached by a man who opened the driver's side door, police said. Read More

Eight arrested in takeover of abandoned Kaiser building

Eight protesters were arrested this morning for taking over an abandoned Kaiser Permanente building on San Francisco's Divisadero Street in protest of what they say are inadequate resources for The City's homeless population. The group, Homes Not Jails, organized a rally Monday evening before marching to the building at the intersection of Divisadero and O'Farrell streets and occupying it overnight, group spokesman Paul Boden said. A San Francisco police officer caught on videotape in 2008 telling a black Army veteran to “get out of the street, boy” has been fired from the department, sources said. The termination stems from a March 1, 2008, incident that led to the arrest of Charles Haynes, who was leaving Zeke’s bar in the South of Market area at about 2 a.m. Haynes had left the bar after doing a show there as MC Truth when he came across Officer Paul Morgado. Meetings to ally South City police, community amid rise in gang violence

In an effort to combat a rise in gang violence, South San Francisco has hired a local nonprofit to organize a series of community meetings and train police officers on building trust with neighbors. The City Council signed a $35,000 contract Wednesday with the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center, which hopes to replicate successful strategies it has used since 2004 to clean up a violence-plagued neighborhood in San Mateo. Police are hunting for a man who fired one shot into a minivan containing children at the Sunnydale housing projects Monday.The bullet struck the passenger door on the driver’s side of the minivan, but the driver, his wife and three children ages 15, 14 and 6 were not injured, officers at the Ingleside Police Station said Thursday.
