A busy highway in Yosemite National Park is set to reopen, less than a week after house-size boulders crashed down on it during a major storm.
Park officials say the Big Oak Flat Road portion of Highway 120 will be cleared by 8 a.m. Saturday.
The scenic roadway, which is the continuation of Highway 120 within the park, was closed after what Yosemite officials termed a "large rockfall" during the night of Jan. 22.

Farmers whose land was damaged by Missouri River flooding expressed frustration Friday that a missed deadline will keep them from sharing in $215 million from one federal disaster program.
Farmers and communities had to apply for the aid by June 30, but many still had land under water then and couldn't do a required damage assessment. Water didn't recede from many farms in Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri until late September or early October.

Santa Ana winds swept through parts of Southern California on Friday, closing a state college campus as a high-pressure system brought continuing hot, dry weather and extreme fire danger.
California State University, San Bernardino, stopped classes at midmorning as a precaution, affecting some 17,000 students, spokesman Joe Gutierrez said.
"We've had wind damage in the past where it knocked down a tree or a limb," he said.

The National Weather Service issued a high surf warning Thursday afternoon and evening, with swells of up to 15 feet along the Peninsula coast and breaking waves as high as 20 feet on local beaches. The high waves fueled speculation the Mavericks Invitational surf contest might happen soon. The Half Moon Bay competition could occur anytime within a three-month window that began this month, with surfers given 24 hours of notice.

Southern California is enjoying a second day of unseasonably warm weather, but forecasters say conditions are expected to turn blustery.
The National Weather Service says Thursday's high in downtown Los Angeles was 11 degrees above normal, topping out at 79, while many other areas saw highs up to the mid-80s.

Mozambique's meteorological service says the second tropical depression to hit the southern part of the country in two weeks has destroyed thousands of homes.
Sergio Buque says that heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds have affected more than 250,000 families since the storms began last week. He says the newest tropical depression moved from the central province of Sofala, where it hit Wednesday night, to the southern Inhambane province.
