This crook was allegedly caught sleeping on the job. A man accused of using a blow torch to break into an ATM in the Upper Noe Valley neighborhood last weekend was found by police moments later sleeping in a nearby pickup truck -- or at least pretending to. Just after 3 a.m. Sunday, an alert citizen called police about the fiery break-in at a cash machine near Church and 29th streets. Read More

Vigilante’s efforts help lead to Noe Valley theft suspect’s arrest

A suspected burglar who was arrested in Noe Valley on Tuesday after a vigilante peppered him with bear spray pleaded not guilty Thursday. Andy Anduha, 51, of San Francisco, is charged with one count of first-degree burglary following the alleged theft of a package from a home on 22nd Street. Though Anduha fled, police said, the orange spray left a mark that made it easy for officers to identify him. Read More

Noe Valley fire ousts residents

A two-alarm fire that burned two buildings in Noe Valley on Monday afternoon was extinguished in about 50 minutes, a Fire Department spokeswoman said. The blaze was reported about 2:35 p.m. on the top floor of a three-story building at 276 Jersey St., then spread to a second building, Fire Department Lt. Mindy Talmadge said. Noe Valley attempted rape suspect pleads not guilty

An Oakland man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of breaking into a home in San Francisco's Noe Valley neighborhood last weekend with the intent to rape a woman, prosecutors said. Nathan Simmons, 26, was arrested after an incident reported at about 2:50 a.m. Sunday. A woman was sleeping on the couch at her friend's home when Simmons allegedly broke into the home, district attorney's office spokesman Omid Talai said. Read More

A three-story building in San Francisco's Noe Valley sustained significant damage in a fire Saturday afternoon, but no one was injured.The two-alarm blaze broke out on the 4000 block of 24th Street, between Noe and Castro streets. The first floor is a Radio Shack store, adjacent to a Wells Fargo bank, and the second and third floors are apartments. The blaze began around 3:50 p.m. and was under control within 40 minutes, according to San Francisco fire officials. Read More

Two gunpoint robberies within 20 minutes in Castro, Noe Valley areas

Two gunpoint robberies that happened within 20 minutes of each other in the Castro and Noe Valley areas Sunday, police said. The first heist occurred at Caselli Avenue and Douglas Street around 1:40 a.m. A 43-year-old man was held up at gunpoint by a man in his 20s, police said. The thief fled with the victim’s cellphone in a white newer model 4-door sedan with chrome rims and tinted windows. A second suspect was driving the getaway car. Read More
