Gas leak closes downtown San Francisco street

A gas leak caused by construction closed a street in downtown San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon.Contractors working on the new Transbay Transit Center struck a 16-inch natural gas pipeline on Beale Street at about 11:50 a.m., according to a press release.The San Francisco Fire Department and PG&E were notified of the leak, according to a Transbay Transit Center spokesman. Demolition will begin next week on Transbay Terminal ramps

Construction to take down old ramps from the Transbay Terminal will begin next Monday at Clementina Street.Crews are in the midst of tearing down all remnants of the 71-year-old former transit depot located in The City’s SoMa District. A major part of that project will take place next week, when construction crews demolish the old ramps.
