Super Bowl L is going to be played in Santa Clara, but The City will host the party that comes along with it.
The NFL selected the 49ers to host the golden anniversary Super Bowl in 2016 at an owners’ meeting in Boston on Tuesday.
The team’s $1.2 billion Levi’s Stadium, which is under construction in Santa Clara, will host the game, but most of the week’s festivities will be held in San Francisco.

The Warriors will be feted Tuesday at San Francisco City Hall after their playoff run ended last week.
Mayor Ed Lee will declare Tuesday as Golden State Warriors Day in San Francisco, according to the Mayor’s Office.
Lee also is scheduled to give the key to The City to star player Stephen Curry in honor of setting the NBA record for the most 3-pointers in a season. Curry hit that record mark in April.

In 1975, I advocated that San Francisco build an indoor arena in the area where the Moscone Center is now. The arena would have accommodated the Warriors and an NHL team. A commission appointed to study the plan voted it down by a one-vote margin.
So, the Warriors stayed in Oakland. The NHL team eventually wound up in San Jose, where it has thrived as the Sharks.

A $26,000 gift of office furnishings received by District Attorney George Gascón was approved by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, but not without some questions about whether it was good practice and even if the proper disclosure form was filed.
Last week, Gascón said he had requested help with obtaining furnishings. Donations rolled in, beginning with a $9,999 gift from Ron Conway, the Silicon Valley angel investor guiding San Francisco’s current tech boom.

Mayor Ed Lee announced Monday that San Francisco is making $12 million in affordable loans available to small businesses through the creation of the Emerging Business Loan Fund.
“The Emerging Business Loan Fund will allow entrepreneurs and small businesses to secure the capital they need to innovate, grow their business and succeed,” Lee said in a statement.

The U.S. Department of Justice is moving to seize a Mission district building that houses a city-licensed medical marijuana dispensary — the first time such an action has been taken in San Francisco.
Melinda Haag, the U.S. attorney for Northern California, filed a forfeiture proceeding May 6 against 2441 Mission St., a commercial building between 20th and 21st streets where Shambhala Healing Center has operated on and off since early 2011.

Max and Lubov Azria, owners of a Los Angeles-based fashion house, are in The City this week to receive honors from the Academy of Art University and from Mayor Ed Lee, who issued a proclamation declaring Wednesday the couple’s official day in San Francisco.
