Mayor Ed Lee on Wednesday ended months of speculation when he appointed District 4 Supervisor Carmen Chu to serve as assessor-recorder.
Chu, a former budget analyst who was first appointed to the Board of Supervisors in September 2007, will be sworn in by March 4, Lee said.
“It comes as no surprise that I chose Carmen,” said Lee, whose choice of Chu was an open secret at City Hall for several months. “She’s fiscally smart, and brilliant.”

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee is making one of his biggest bets yet on the 49ers when the team takes on the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl this Sunday, city officials said.
Lee has agreed on a friendly wager with Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake on the outcome of the big game in New Orleans.

A group that promotes the responsible consumption of alcohol is asking San Francisco not to demonize hard liquor by tying it to rowdiness after sporting events.
