A man’s split-second decision to protect his family helped deter shotgun-toting robbers in the Sunset district Monday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m., the 36-year-old man was reportedly washing a vehicle in his driveway in the 1600 block of 33rd Avenue when he was approached from behind by a teenager with a short-barrel shotgun and another suspect. The teen pointed the shotgun at the man and ordered him to stand up and lead them into his home, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

Andre Bueno, 29, was arrested for allegedly killing 44-year-old Xiao "Ben" Xiong Luo at a home in the 2400 block of Moraga Street at about 5:45 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2010, police said.

Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting’s election to the California Assembly has set into motion a possible series of personnel changes that could result in the appointment of a new San Francisco supervisor and affect who becomes the next board president.
Ting bested Michael Breyer on Tuesday to capture the Assembly seat representing western San Francisco and parts of northern San Mateo County. After Ting is sworn in Dec. 3, it will be up to Mayor Ed Lee to appoint his replacement.
