Scott Peterson appeals death sentence to state supreme court

Death row inmate Scott Peterson, who was sentenced to be executed for murdering his wife and unborn son 10 years ago, has asked the California Supreme Court in San Francisco to overturn his conviction. Lawyers for Peterson, 39, of Modesto, filed the appeal Thursday in the first step in the lengthy death penalty appeals process in California. School Bonds Measure S Voters in the Cabrillo Unified School District serving Half Moon Bay approved Measure S, an $81 million bond issue that will allow the district to repair deteriorating school buildings. The district, which is facing a $2 million deficit this year, expects to issue 40-year bonds, which would be paid back by taxes estimated to cost property owners $45 per year for each $100,000 of assessed value. Drive sober or get pulled over. That’s the message San Mateo County police delivered to 43 people arrested on suspicion of drunken driving during the first 48 hours of Memorial Day weekend. As part of the “Avoid the 23” traffic enforcement effort, 17 county law enforcement agencies arrested 43 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said. Pacifica fire kills boy, grandpa

Two people died in an early-morning fire Sunday that swept through and destroyed a Pacifica home.The victims are believed to be a 13-year-old boy and his 93-year-old grandfather, Red Cross spokesman Patricia Peper said.The fire at the a two-story, single-family home at 552 Inverness Drive was reported at 5:54 a.m., North County Fire Authority spokesman Matt Lucett said.
