Shooting victim identified as East Palo Alto boy, 15

A teenager who was shot and killed in East Palo Alto on Sunday night has been identified by the San Mateo County coroner’s office as 15-year-old Jose Quinonez. Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 2800 block of Fordham Street at about 11 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found three teenage boys with gunshot wounds, police said. Quinonez, an East Palo Alto resident, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Read More

President Obama visiting Peninsula next month for fundraisers

President Barack Obama is returning to the Bay Area in a couple of weeks to raise money for his Democratic colleagues in the U.S. Senate, according to party officials. 6 people shot in East Palo Alto

Six people were shot and injured about 2:45 p.m. Sunday near a McDonald’s on University Avenue in East Palo Alto, according to a fire official. Firefighters arriving on the scene reportedly found six people with gunshot wounds, four inside the restaurant and two outside, but it is unclear where they were shot. One person, a man in his 20s, received more serious injuries and was taken to Stanford Medical Center for treatment. Read More

Stepdad pleads out of child sex abuse case

This guy is the stepdad from hell. And yet his victims only wanted to keep mom happy. Robert Sparhawk, 48, of Palo Alto pleaded no contest Monday to three felony child molestation charges for sexually abusing his wife’s two daughters, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. A man accused of burglarizing the late Steve Jobs’ Palo Alto home last month — making off with electronics, jewelry and even the Apple co-founder’s wallet, which contained a $1 bill — reportedly had no idea whose home it was before he broke in, authorities said.
