The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has identified a woman who was killed when the car she was driving was struck by a Caltrain in Palo Alto on Friday as Judith Goldblatt.
Northbound train No. 369 struck Goldblatt's Nissan Altima rental car at Charleston Road near Alma Street at about 5 p.m. Friday, Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.

A woman in her 60s from Indiana visiting family in Palo Alto was killed when a car she and a man she was driving with was struck by a train, according to Caltrain.
Caltrain service was halted in both directions Friday during the evening commute after a northbound train struck a Nissan Altima rental car at approximately 5 p.m. The car was traveling eastbound at the the intersection of Alma and Charleston in Palo Alto, according to the transit agency.

A Palo Alto attorney accused of trying to buy his way out of his third DUI arrest in Colma was due back in court Monday for a pre-trial conference.Richard Chae, 37, allegedly offered a cop who pulled him over up to $35,000 to let him go on Feb. 26. According to police, he made three separate offers, first pulling $900 out of his pocket, then offering $5,000, and finally $35,000.

The death of a 24-yeara-old Sunnyvale man on the Caltrain tracks Monday night appeared to be a suicide.At about 7:30 p.m., a southbound train struck and killed the man on the tracks at the Palo Alto station, according to the transit agency. A preliminary investigation indicated that the death was an intentional act, according to the agency.

A fifth-grade teacher at Hoover Elementary School in Palo Alto died Sunday after a brief illness, and health officials are looking into the possibility that he might have had meningitis.In a letter sent to parents Monday, the school district described the teacher, George Flath, as an "uplifting, vibrant teacher who cherished his work" at Hoover Elementary.
