Parents decry kids’ arrests in San Francisco slaying of German tourist

The parents of several of the seven suspects charged in the shocking killing of a German tourist near Union Square last year lashed out against police following a court hearing Thursday. Gas leak shuts down streets near Union Square in San Francisco

Streets north of San Francisco's Union Square have been shut down because of a gas leak. An email sent out by the notification system AlertSF states that streets are closed in the area of Bush and Stockton streets. PG&E spokeswoman Katie Romans said a third-party construction crew struck a PG&E gas line at 625 Bush St. at about 3:30 p.m.Repair crews have been sent to the scene, she said. Read More

Pepper-spraying crook robs clothing store

A crook pepper-sprayed a clerk in a high-end store near Union Square before fleeing with several handbags Wednesday, police said.The blinding heist occurred in the 100 block of Geary Street around 11:45 a.m.The crook, a black man in his late 30s, reportedly parked a silver Toyota in front of the store before entering and pepper-spraying the 27-year-old clerk in the eyes, police said.
