Momentum is building among state and federal officials to dissolve the California High-Speed Rail Authority and roll it into a proposed state transportation agency. Last week, Gov. Jerry Brown suggested folding the authority — along with Caltrans, the California Highway Patrol and the Department of Motor Vehicles — into a new department. He said consolidation of the agencies, an idea in his 2012-13 budget proposal, would save the state money. Read More

The quieter corners of City Hall looked more like the backstage area of a Broadway show Sunday as thousands were waiting to see the inauguration of Ed Lee, the first elected Asian-American mayor in San Francisco history. The party atmosphere of music, dance and other fanfare continued well after the 11 a.m. event, in which U.S. Sen. Ed Lee inauguration ceremony details released

Two former San Francisco mayors will commemorate the new Ed Lee administration Sunday at City Hall during a public inauguration ceremony that’s also set to include lots of music and dance. Former Mayor Willie Brown will act as emcee and U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein will administer Lee’s oath of office.
