Man struck by car in Richmond district fighting for his life

A 47-year-old man was fighting for his life after an out-of-control car hopped a curb and pinned him to a building wall in the Inner Richmond district Wednesday morning, police said.The driver of the vehicle mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal while parking in the 4300 block of Geary Boulevard around 10:15 a.m., causing the horrific accident that sent the man to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. A black Mercedes was seen speeding off from the scene of Wednesday night’s fatal shooting in the Richmond district, according to the police department.On Wednesday, the San Francisco Police Department said the slain man was between 20 and 30 years old, but this morning his age was reported to be 42. Violent pothead robbers held up a Richmond district marijuana club with an uzi and handgun Friday, police said.The thugs fled with cash and heaps of buds but did not “smoke” anyone at the dispensary in the 4800 block of Geary Boulevard, police said. Officials at the 75-year-old, 1 million-square-foot veterans hospital in the northwest corner of the Outer Richmond district are weighing expansion plans, but must confront concerns from residents about parking. The San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a hospital and research center at Fort Miley at 45th Avenue and Clement Street, serves 55,000 patients who have made about 400,000 visits to the aging structures in the past year alone. Richmond district apartment fire contained by sprinkler system

An apartment fire in San Francisco's Richmond district on Sunday evening was quickly contained by the building sprinkler system, a San Francisco fire dispatcher said. Firefighters responded to a 6:40 p.m. report that a two-story building was on fire at Geary Boulevard and 17th Avenue, the fire dispatcher said. Arriving crews found a room in the building had caught fire, but had been extinguished by the building's sprinkler system. Read More

Shuttered Alexandria Theater evades upkeep

The long-shuttered, three-screen theater on Geary Boulevard and 18th Avenue has become a haven for homeless and has contributed to so much blight along the bustling Richmond district strip that neighbors and businesses are pleading for something to be done. “There are a lot of homeless people sleeping there,” said Yevgeniya Lapa, an employee of the Europa Plus market across the street. “They use it like a restroom.
