A maritime safety group could adopt new guidelines Thursday that would limit ships from sailing under the Bay Bridge in foggy conditions, among other safety precautions.
The move comes after the 752-foot tanker Overseas Reymar stuck the Bay Bridge on Jan. 7 as it was leaving an anchorage south of the span. The incident was the second time a large ship had struck a tower on the bridge; the Cosco Busan hit it in 2007, dumping more than 50,000 gallons of oil into San Francisco Bay.

The Coast Guard has called off the water search for a 27-year-old man they believe fell into the Bay late Monday night.
The man, whose name has not been released, was last seen around 10:30 p.m. when he and a friend were returning from AT&T Park after watching the Giants play, according Coast Guard Officer Mark Leahy.

The U.S. Coast Guard this afternoon suspended a search of the waters near San Francisco’s Embarcadero for a man who may have fallen into the Bay late Monday night after he left a San Francisco Giants game.

More than two dozen people were rescued from a "duck" boat after its engine overheated in the China Basin area Saturday afternoon, Coast Guard spokesman Mike Lutz said.
The Coast Guard received a report of the boat being on fire in McCovey Cove, just south of AT&T Park, at approximately 4:10 p.m., Lutz said.
The 28 passengers were rescued by a Coast Guard 41-foot utility boat and transported to the South Beach Marina. No injuries were reported, he said.

The U.S. Coast Guard kept up a search into the night late Sunday for a missing 55-year-old kayaker who was apparently swept up in a tugboat’s wake and capsized near Pier 80 earlier in the day.
Coast Guard spokesman Ensign Mark Leahey said his agency was searching a dry dock near the pier where Thomas Gregoire was last seen at about 2:50 p.m., as well as the surrounding area. The pier is located on The City’s Central Waterfront area near the Dogpatch neighborhood.

A father and son were pulled from the Bay on Wednesday after a motorboat collided with a dinghy near Hunters Point, north of Candlestick Park.
The son, described as being in his 20s, died at San Francisco General Hospital, according to hospital spokeswoman Racheal Kagan. The father, whose age is unknown, is in good condition.
