A 16-year-old boy was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Excelsior district Tuesday night, police said.
The unidentified victim was near the intersection of Brazil Avenue and Vienna Street at about 8:45 p.m. when a light gray Dodge minivan pulled up.
The gunman, a passenger in the car wearing a ski mask, shot the victim in the shoulder before the minivan sped away westbound on Brazil Avenue, police said.

A fleeing burglary suspect who has apparently watched too many action films hopped onto the roof of a moving vehicle last week in the Excelsior district, hollering at the driver through the sunroof to “speed up,” police reported.
But instead of barely escaping the law, the suspect was arrested after reportedly being thrown off the car on Alemany Boulevard when the driver sped up for a short distance and then slammed on the brakes.

A man was robbed at gunpoint in the Excelsior neighborhood Wednesday, police said.
The 35-year-old victim was walking eastbound on Brazil Street toward Vienna about 10:40 p.m. when he was approached by two men in their 20s, police Officer Albie Esparza said. One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim and demanded his money.
The second suspect grabbed the victim’s wallet and cellphone from his pockets and then punched him in the face.

It could take weeks to identify the two elderly men who died in a fire at a debris-filled home in the Excelsior district Aug. 17, the Medical Examiner’s Office said Thursday.
The fire was reported at 3:34 a.m. in a two-story home at 171 Vienna St. The men died in separate bedrooms on the second floor. Authorities have not been able to reach family members to help identify the men and may have to rely on DNA testing, Medical Examiner’s Office officials said.

Three teenagers were taken into custody Wednesday after a witness reported seeing them fill glass bottles with gasoline in the Excelsior district.
The boys, two aged 13 and the other 15, were arrested on suspicion of possessing an incendiary device in the 500 block of Munich Street, just north of Crocker Amazon Playground. They were detained while exiting their home just after 3 p.m., police said.

A man was shot in the chest in an attempted robbery early Wednesday in the Excelsior, police said. The victim, described by police as a man in his 50s, was waiting at a bus stop at Geneva Avenue and Alemany Boulevard about 4:15 a.m. when two men in their 20s held the man up at gunpoint, police said. The gun went off and struck the victim in the chest, police said. The suspects fled the scene.
