A motorcyclist died this morning in East Palo Alto after being struck by a car whose driver was fleeing from police. East Palo Alto acting police Capt. Jeff Liu said that at about 5:25 a.m., police learned of a suspicious vehicle that didn’t have its lights on.An officer tried to pull the car over but the driver accelerated away and drove the wrong way on University Avenue, he said. The San Mateo County coroner’s office has identified a 19-year-old who died in a Sunday night shooting in East Palo Alto as Kevin Guzman.Guzman, who was an East Palo Alto resident, and an 18-year-old man were found shot in a parking lot at 1489 East Bayshore Road around 10:30 p.m., according to East Palo Alto police.Guzman was pronounced dead at the scene.The 18-year-old was taken to Stanford Hospital and is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
