Sinking tug boat causes oil spill in San Francisco Bay near Richmond

A decommissioned Navy tug boat that is sinking near Richmond has caused an oil spill, the U.S. Coast Guard said Sunday night. The 205-foot Tug Tiger, moored near Richmond, was discovered to be sinking Sunday. Officials responding to the scene found a black discharge coming from the tug and surrounded it with three layers of a 22-inch hard boom to contain the pollution, officials said. UPDATE: PG&E repairs gas line in Richmond, evacuation lifted

An evacuation that was issued following a gas-line rupture Saturday morning in Richmond has been lifted, a Richmond Fire Department spokesman said.The rupture at South 49th Street and Wall Avenue was reported by the Richmond Police Department just after 11:35 a.m.A private contractor was doing work in the area and hit the 2-inch, low-pressure line at about 10:35 a.m., Richmond Fire Department spokesman Rico Rincon said. Richmond drag race leads to fatal crash

Two vehicles that were involved in a fatal crash in Richmond early Sunday morning were drag racing, according to police. The crash was reported on Richmond Parkway at about 1:15 a.m., Richmond police Lt. Bisa French said. Police believe the two cars had been drag racing in the eastbound lanes when they clipped each other and spun out of control. Read More

Defendants in Richmond gang rape case plead not guilty

Six defendants accused of beating and gang raping a 16-year-old girl outside of Richmond High School's homecoming dance in October 2009 pleaded not guilty Wednesday to numerous felony charges.The defendants were arraigned in a Martinez courtroom Wednesday morning, and all agreed to a tentative trial date of Sept. 4, 2012.In December, the six defendants were ordered to stand trial for the beating and gang rape, which occurred in a dark courtyard on the Richmond High campus. Security guard accused of shooting spree is charged with 8 felony counts

A Concord resident and apparent disgruntled employee who shot at his supervisor and at his neighbor's home last week was charged Monday with eight felony counts including attempted murder, authorities said. Doran Long Jr., 50, was charged with three counts of attempted murder, two counts of shooting into an inhabited building and three counts of shooting at unoccupied vehicles, Contra Costa County Deputy District Attorney Brian Baker said. Police ID suspects in Bay Area high-speed chase, robbery

Police have identified three armed robbery suspects who led officers from multiple law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase through two counties early this morning. Santa Rosa residents Jose Campos, 22, and Javier Campos, 20, were arrested around 2 a.m. on suspicion of armed robbery, possession of a loaded firearm and conspiracy this morning along with Chris Silva, 24, of Visalia, according to a Sonoma County Sheriff's report. Authorities capture man wanted in Richmond apartment complex shooting

The suspect in what appears to be a shooting by a disgruntled security guard at a Richmond apartment complex on Wednesday night is in custody in El Dorado County, authorities said.The security officer, 50-year-old Concord resident Doran Long Jr., is suspected of shooting at his supervisor around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of Hartnett Avenue.The supervisor was hit by the gunfire but is expected to survive. Contra Costa County coroner confirms body found Thursday is that of missing canoer

The Contra Costa County coroner’s office has confirmed that a body that was found near Richmond’s Brooks Island late Thursday afternoon is that of a canoer who went missing Wednesday evening.Michael Butler, a 41-year-old Treasure Island resident, was in a canoe with two friends near Treasure Island on Wednesday when it overturned, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
