Times have been tough recently for the USF women’s basketball team, but an infusion to young talent and a change in mindset has coach Jennifer Azzi confident this season will be different.
“[There is] more of a clear focus,” Azzi said. “The players that are here want to be here and they have more of our mindset.”
The Dons finished eighth in the West Coast Conference last season and were selected to finish ninth in this season’s preseason poll.

At the West Coast Conference media day on Oct. 27, USF men’s basketball coach Rex Walters said all he wants to do is coach, recruit and schedule.
Although he didn’t have to recruit heavily this past season, he and his team are going into the 2011-12 season with a full head of steam.

A man whose car rear-ended another vehicle near the University of San Francisco early Thursday morning is on life support at a hospital Thursday afternoon, a police spokesman said.The crash was reported at 12:33 a.m. at the intersection of Fulton and Stanyan streets.The 33-year-old victim was driving west on Fulton Street when his vehicle smashed into the back of a car that was stopped at a red light at Stanyan Street, police said.

The University of San Francisco is adding a new “hub” to its rolls: 101 Howard St.
The 150-year-old private university announced that it is purchasing the historic Folger Coffee Building for $36 million in hopes of “reaching a broader base of students.”
The building — which is 100,000 square feet, according to USF spokeswoman Anne-Marie Devine — is located near the old Transbay Transit Terminal and closer to BART than the university’s main campus.
