Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council recycling center remains, but eviction is pending

The recycling center and nursery next to Kezar Stadium will still be evicted, but when exactly is unknown. An eviction notice was given to the Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council’s recycling site Nov. 29. By law, the center and native plant nursery had until Wednesday to voluntarily pack up and move out of Golden Gate Park, according to Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Kathy Gorwood. The Stanford football team caught its first break of the 2011 season with the weather Monday, as new coach David Shaw was able to watch his squad practice in near-perfect conditions. Garden replacing Haight-Ashbury recycling center

A Haight-Ashbury recycling center that started 36 years ago as a community activism project on an asphalt parking lot in Golden Gate Park can expect a 90-day eviction notice today. After two hours of public outcry both supporting and opposing the closure of the center next to Kezar Stadium to make way for community-garden plots and a pedestrian plaza, the Recreation and Park Commission unanimously voted in favor of the change Thursday.
