San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby closing in on Elite Cup title

San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby will host Old Pugent Sound Beach in the West semifinal of USA Rugby’s Elite Cup competition, which features the top clubs across the nation, on Saturday at 3 p.m. on Treasure Island. A victory by SFGG would put it in the championship game against the East’s top squad on May 25 in Glendale, Colo. San Francisco has yet to lose this season and is led by Cal alum Chris Biller. Chemical chef causes Treasure Island blaze

A two-alarm fire on Treasure Island last weekend started when a 29-year-old man reportedly “gathered a bunch of cleaning chemicals such as Clorox and began cooking them to see what would happen,” police said Monday. Treasure Island fire kills 10-year-old girl

A 10-year-old girl died in a fire after becoming trapped inside her burning family home on San Francisco's Treasure Island early Saturday morning, an assistant San Francisco Fire Department chief said. Fire crews responded to multiple reports of a fire at a two-story townhouse at 1212 Mariner Drive around 12:30 a.m., said Assistant Chief David Franklin. San Francisco man ID’d as motorcyclist who fled from officers

A motorcyclist who was arrested Tuesday after leading authorities on a pursuit across the Bay Bridge and then crashing in San  Francisco has been identified by the California Highway Patrol as 30-year-old Steven Stanford Jr. The crash was reported at 12:17 p.m. Tuesday at Fifth and Harrison streets in the South of Market neighborhood. Environmental review for Treasure Island development approved by judge

The project to redevelop Treasure Island received its second piece of recent good news when a judge approved the adequacy of The City’s environmental impact report. Shortly after the Board of Supervisors approved the project in July 2011, a group called Citizens for a Sustainable Treasure Island filed a suit over the environmental report. Superior Court Judge Teri Jackson ruled Friday that it “provides sufficient analysis to intelligently consider the environmental consequences.” Read More
