At 3-7, the Bears are left with no tangible motivation, other than to avoid an utter collapse, and they probably will be without their best player and their starting quarterback to finish up the season. Cal will face Washington without star receiver Allen

Having already proven capable of beating some of the Pac-12’s best teams this season, Washington coach Steve Sarkisian’s team faces another monumental task as it tries to close in on a bowl berth. The Huskies are winless in their last six road games dating back to 2011 and have been outscored 145-41 in their three games away from CenturyLink Field this season. Read More

Cal back in desperation mode

Cal will be in desperation mode again when it plays at Utah on Saturday, and the Bears performed well with that mindset before. Cal was sliding into oblivion with a 1-4 record when it produced its best game of the season in a 43-17 victory over UCLA on Oct. 6. That seemed to lift the Bears out of the doldrums and led to a two-game winning streak. Read More
