Muni union takes on legality of San Francisco's Prop. G

Seeking to derail the voter initiative that gave Muni more leverage in contract negotiations with operators, a union has jeopardized $2 billion in federal funding for projects including bus and light-rail replacement and the Central Subway. By targeting the funding, the union hopes to force Muni to seek the repeal of Proposition G, thus strengthening the hand of the Transport Workers Union Local 250-A in ongoing bargaining talks. Cell phone radiation bill goes to supes

The Board of Supervisors will today consider the mayor’s legislation that would require retailers to notify consumers of cell phone radiation levels. San Francisco would become the first city in the world to require such labeling in stores, under Mayor Gavin Newsom’s legislation. The City Operations and Neighborhood Services Committee last month recommended its adoption 2-1, with Supervisor Sean Elsbernd voting against the proposal. Read More
