San Francisco’s sidewalks are receiving an upgrade that is removing concrete and replacing it with community gardens.
The program, run by Friends of the Urban Forest in partnership with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, will help remove “excess” concrete and improve drainage during storms, as well as beautify neighborhoods.

A San Francisco man was fatally shot in Hayes Valley on Tuesday night, just two blocks away from where an innocent bystander was wounded in November, police said.
Byron Beasley, 24, was found in the 700 block of Grove Street about 7:50 p.m. He had been shot in his torso and leg, and died later at a hospital.
Police said the suspects might have been driving a white vehicle. No motive for the shooting is known, and an investigation is ongoing.

A man who reportedly claims to own Hayes Valley was convicted Wednesday on 94 of 95 stalking counts after terrorizing a woman he dated for only two weeks.
A jury found Greg Hayes, 40, guilty of one count of felony stalking, four counts of criminal threats and 89 counts of violating a family court order for cyber-stalking the woman until June of last year, Assistant District Attorney Alex Bastian said.

A 46-year-old truck driver was carjacked Monday by two thugs in Hayes Valley, police said. The truck driver was approached at Laguna and Grove streets by two men of indeterminate age around 6:40 p.m., cops said. They pointed a gun at the victim and told him to get out of the truck. The victim complied. One of the crooks jumped in the victim’s box truck and drove away while the other fled in a burgundy truck, police said. No arrests have been made.
