A 23-year-old man was critically injured in North Beach early Sunday when a punch caused him to strike his head on the ground, police said.
Just after 2 a.m., police said, officers responded to a report of a fight in the parking lot at 470 Broadway. The victim, police said, had been punched in the face by an unknown suspect. The suspect reportedly fled in a vehicle. The victim was taken to a hospital, but his condition was upgraded Tuesday and he’s expected to survive.

A store manager in North Beach was hospitalized Saturday night after a fight with a customer, police said.
The customer was harassing store patrons and employees when the manager asked him to leave. The customer went outside and began yelling at people entering and exiting the store. Minutes later, he charged back into the store and threw coffee at the manager, police said.
He then pulled out a knife and slashed the manager’s thumb and back before fleeing.
