A 160-ton tunnel-boring machine named Lisa will begin carving an underground path Monday for a new sewage pipe about 40 feet below Visitacion Valley.Named after its owner’s wife, Lisa will cut a 12-foot-wide tunnel designed to relieve neighbors of persistent sewage backups during rainy seasons. The passageway will stretch about 4,000 feet from Bayshore Boulevard to Harney Way, near Candlestick Park.

The far right lane of the Bay Bridge's lower deck has been shut down this morning due to a loose cable or wire obstructing traffic, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
CHP Officer Trent Cross said a motorist reported at about 6 a.m. that a live wire was hanging down onto eastbound lanes inside the tunnel.
The CHP closed the far right lane to "isolate the hazard," Cross said.

Engineers and California Department of Transportation crews have drilled more than halfway through the new tunnels at Devil’s Slide on the San Mateo County coast. The long-awaited twin tunnels are taking shape beneath San Pedro Mountain. They will eventually help to reroute Highway 1 away from the twisting stretch of coastline called Devil’s Slide. Crews expect to punch through the other side of the mountain this time next year, and the tunnels are slated to open in late 2011.
