Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig has been given a two-year contract extension through the 2014 season.
Selig has held the position since 1992, first as acting commissioner and then as commissioner since 1998. He will turn 80 in July 2014.
If he stays until September 2016, he would surpass Kenesaw Mountain Landis (1920-44) as the longest-serving baseball commissioner.
Selig's contract had been due to expire this Dec. 31.

John Lucas III scored a career-high 25 points filling in for injured Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls beat the Washington Wizards 78-64 on Wednesday for their third victory in three nights.
Lucas, starting for the first time in his 70-game NBA career, was at the point in place of MVP Rose, who was out with a sprained big left toe. Lucas played 45 minutes, had eight assists, eight rebounds and hit 11 of 28 shots.

Vince Carter and Ian Mahinmi had 13 points each to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 96-81 victory over New Orleans on Saturday to hand the depleted Hornets their sixth consecutive loss.
Carter and Mahinmi led a balanced scoring attack for the Mavericks (4-5), who won their fourth straight at home and had six players scoring in double figures.

Shane Doan scored at the buzzer for the first hat trick of his 16-year NHL career, leading the Phoenix Coyotes to a 5-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday night.
Doan, in his 1,161st game, fired a slap shot past goalie Evgeni Nabokov just before the buzzer sounded. The 35-year-old team captain had been, along with Scott Mellanby, the only players in league history with 300 goals but no hat tricks.

Erik Cole scored his 17th goal of the season on the power play with 17 seconds remaining to seal the Canadiens' second straight win. Montreal, which won for the third time in 10 games, got consecutive victories for the first time since Dec. 10-13.
