Reward for information in council member's death could reach $150,000

The Solano County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $50,000 reward this morning for information on the fatal shooting of Fairfield Councilman Matt Garcia, the board's office assistant Karen Cabansag said this morning. Mission shooting victim dies

A man who was shot in the head while sitting in a car at the corner of 18th and Bryant streets Thursday evening was pronounced dead Friday and was identified Monday by the San Francisco Medical Examiner as 28-year old San Francisco resident Giovanni Lechado. A woman in the car, described by friends as the man's wife, was also shot and sustained life-threatening injuries, according to police. Woman shot by cousin's husband was domestic violence victims advocate

Catalina Torres, a mother of two who was shot and killed Saturday along with Martinez police Sgt. Paul Starzyk, had been attempting to help her cousin escape from an abusive relationship, the director of a local domestic violence program said Monday. Torres, 44, was a former victim of domestic violence and had sought help from STAND! Martinez man identified as slain shooter

A Contra Costa County sheriff's office spokesman identified 49-year-old Felix Sandoval Jr. Sunday as the man who was killed after he fatally shot a 44-year-old woman and a Martinez police sergeant Saturday near a hair salon in Martinez. Martinez police Sgt. Paul Starzyk and Catalina Torres, 44, were both killed during the incident, as was Sandoval, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said. Read More

Two injured in Potrero Hill shooting

Two people were shot inside a vehicle in the Potrero Hill neighborhood Saturday night, according to the Police Department. The shooting was reported around 9:15 p.m. at 23rd and Arkansas streets, police said. The victims drove to the hospital and were reportedly in stable condition. No suspects were arrested. Read More

$250,000 reward announced in 2005 killing

A San Francisco father Thursday marked the third anniversary of the unsolved slaying of his 20-year-old son with the announcement of a new $250,000 reward posted by the city. The parents and siblings of Brian Marquez, shot dead outside a grocery in the city's Mission District on Labor Day weekend in 2005, are hoping that anyone who may have seen the killing will come forward. Huge manhunt on for suspect in councilman's shooting

Police gave an updated description Wednesday afternoon of a man suspected of shooting 22-year-old Fairfield City Councilman Matt Garcia on Monday night. At a news conference at City Hall, police Lt. Bob Bunting described the suspect as a light-skinned black or Hispanic man in his late teens or early 20s. He is approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build, Bunting said. Read More

Judge orders woman shot by police to stand trial

 A 56-year-old San Francisco woman will stand trial for multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly threatening two police officers with a knife before they shot her in the torso and face, a San Francisco Superior Court judge ruled Wednesday. Read More
