S. Sudan holds firm on oil production stoppage

South Sudan's minister of petroleum and mining says the nation will not restart oil production unless Sudan accepts a list of demands. Stephen Dhieu Dau said Sunday that South Sudan was "committed to negotiations" but that Khartoum would have to accept their offer of paying $1 per barrel for using Sudan's pipelines for export and $2.4 billion dollar financial assistance package before South Sudan turns on production again. 29 Chinese missing after militant attack in Sudan

Militants apparently captured 29 Chinese workers after attacking a remote worksite in a volatile region of Sudan, and Sudanese forces were increasing security for Chinese projects and personnel there, China said Sunday. Iran says oil could reach $120 to $150 per barrel

The head of Iran's state oil company said Sunday that the price of crude will reach $120 to $150 per barrel, as officials in Tehran prepare to discuss a ban on crude sales to European Union countries in retaliation for an EU embargo. Head of the National Iranian Oil Company Ahmad Qalehbani also said that Tehran would expand its capacity to refine crude domestically, instead of selling it on international markets. Read More

Weekly US oil, gas rig count unchanged at 2,008

The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. held steady this week at 2,008. The Houston-based oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. reported Friday that 1,225 rigs were exploring for oil and 777 for natural gas. Six were listed as miscellaneous. A year ago this week Baker Hughes reported 1,732 active rigs. Read More

Chevron 4Q profit down 3 pct. on refinery decline

Chevron Corp. said Friday that its profit slipped by 3.2 percent in the fourth quarter as its refineries struggled to pass on the higher cost of crude oil. The San Ramon, Calif., oil giant on Friday reported net income of $5.12 billion, or $2.58 per share, in the final three months of 2011. That compares with $5.3 billion, or $2.64 per share, in the same part of 2010. Revenue increased 11.9 percent to $60 billion. Read More
