A postal worker was almost robbed of her mail near Hallidie Plaza on Friday, police said.
The 49-year-old female civil servant’s letters were snatched out of her hand at Eddy and Mason streets about 12:20 p.m., police said.
The victim gave chase and attempted to get the mail back but was pushed by the thief, described by police as a woman in her 20s, who fled with the mail to a nearby Muni bus.

A Minneapolis woman is being charged with animal cruelty after police say she tried to send a puppy through the mail without food or water. The poodle-mix pup was discovered after its movements knocked the two-day priority Post Office box off a counter. The puppy is now doing fine. It will go up for adoption if officials turn down the owner’s appeal to get it back.

All San Francisco District Post Offices will be closed July 4 and July 5 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
The closures include San Francisco post offices that would normally be open on a Sunday, including Lakeshore Plaza, Macy's, the Airport Station and the Marina Green, post office officials said.
In addition, there will be no mail delivery or collections on July 5. Post offices will be open and mail delivery and collections will resume July 6.
