Thousands to walk Golden Gate Bridge for Republic of China's centennial

In addition to the thousands of tourists who cross the Golden Gate Bridge on Saturdays, this morning about 2,500 Taiwanese- and Chinese-Americans will walk the span to celebrate the Republic of China's centennial, according to event organizers. Officials look for identity of Bay Bridge jumper

The Medical Examiner’s Office is asking for help in identifying a man who died after jumping off the Bay Bridge on Aug. 29. The man is described as a white man in his mid-20s to early 30s, about 5-foot-10 and 225 pounds. He had brown hair, although his head was recently shaved, and also had a mole on his left cheek. He did not have tattoos or any other distinguishing marks. He was wearing a black T-shirt that represented the Oregon State University Open Source Lab. Read More

As Americans gathered to remember the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, some San Franciscans turned out to provide a counterpoint. About 250 people opposed to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan met on the Golden Gate Bridge, where they held hands for several minutes of silence. “It was a beautiful experience,” said organizer Toby Blome of the anti-war group Code Pink . The financial picture at the Golden Gate Bridge is improving, although by just how much is a little hard to decipher.The bridge district, which oversees maintenance of the span along with operating a bus and ferry system, issues annual five-year financial projections to give a picture of its long-term health. Golden Gate Bridge divides cyclists, walkers on sidewalk

New painted lines and explanatory signs have been added to the east sidewalk of the Golden Gate Bridge to help ease congestion brought on by the recent closure of the western walkway. Since May 31, pedestrians and cyclists have complained about the cramped conditions on the eastern sidewalk of the span, which can feature as many as 16,000 visitors on a busy day. Read More

Driver who allegedly ran down bicyclists in San Francisco will enter insanity plea
