Family of deceased former Raiders lineman joins NFL concussion lawsuits

The family of former Raiders offensive lineman Chris Riehm filed a lawsuit Friday contending that traumatic brain injury from repeated head injuries was a cause or contributing factor in Riehm’s death, asserting that the NFL “promoted and mythologized” violence. Riehm, an offensive lineman for the Raiders from 1986 to 1988, died in March in his home state of Ohio at the age of 50, officially of a heart attack. Read More

Raiders deal WR Murphy to Panthers

The Raiders traded wide receiver Louis Murphy to the Carolina Panthers for an undisclosed conditional draft pick. The NFL Network reported it is a conditional late-round pick. Murphy has 90 career receptions for 1,371 yards and six touchdowns in three seasons since being a fourth-round pick out of Florida. However, he posted career lows of 15 catches for 241 yards and no touchdowns in 11 games last season. Read More

Raiders player receives probation, classes in DUI case

Darrius Heyward-Bey will stick to just weaving on a football field. Wanting to shift his focus to the upcoming summer training camp, the Raiders wide receiver pleaded no contest on Monday to misdemeanor DUI stemming from an April 7 arrest in which he was reportedly speeding and weaving on the San Francisco side of the Bay Bridge. Raiders player pleads not guilty to DUI in S.F.

Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey passed on attending his own arraignment on DUI charges Thursday, having his attorney plead not guilty on his behalf in a San Francisco courtroom. Attorney Ivan Golde told the media after the hearing that the 25-year-old football star has no prior convictions and that the misdemeanor DUI arrest on the Bay Bridge last month was his first. At least he can catch a court date.Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, 25, is scheduled to be arraigned in a San Francisco courtroom Thursday on DUI charges, prosecutors said.Heyward-Bey was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol on April 7 for allegedly speeding and weaving on the Bay Bridge near Treasure Island. The 49ers and Raiders are approaching the 2012 season quite differently. The 49ers are trying to mount another attack at the Super Bowl. The Raiders are trying to undo the damage caused by the ridiculous contracts Al Davis gave out in the two years before his death.
