Raiders sign linebacker Kevin Burnett

The Raiders signed veteran outside linebacker Kevin Burnett, the team announced Sunday. Burnett started 16 games for the Miami Dolphins last season, when he had 80 tackles, 29 assists and 2½ sacks. He was recently released by the Dolphins. The move suggests the Raiders may be thinking about switching to a 3-4 defense, although they have not said they will make that change. Raiders bolster ‘D’ through free agency

ALAMEDA — The Raiders cut ties with two former first-round picks on Tuesday by releasing starting receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and defensive back Michael Huff. ALAMEDA — After watching the success athletic quarterbacks had this past season in the NFL, new Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson wants to see if he has one of those dual-threat runner-passers on his roster. Olson said Wednesday it will be important to see what Terrelle Pryor can do for the Raiders during offseason workouts and minicamps to get a better sense of what the Raiders have at quarterback. Raiders bring in Tony Sparano as assistant head coach, O-line coach

Tony Sparano is headed to the Raiders as their assistant head coach and offensive line coach,  the club announced Wednesday. Before landing the Raiders’ job, Sparano interviewed with several other teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs, for coaching vacancies after one year with the New York Jets. Sparano was fired by the Jets after the 2012 season in which the team’s offense ranked No. 30 in the NFL. Read More

Former Raiders wide receiver Tim Brown said in a recent radio interview that much of the blame for the Raiders’ 48-21 loss to Tampa Bay in Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003, following the 2002 season, should go to coach Bill Callahan, suggesting some of Callahan’s decisions in the days leading up to the game seemed like sabotoge. Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie remains committed to Darren McFadden despite a disappointing 2012 season and hopes a new offensive system helps the running back get his career back on track. McKenzie spoke to beat reporters on Thursday for the first time since Nov. 30 and looked back at a disappointing first season in Oakland and ahead to the future. He said McFadden will be part of that future as he enters the final year of his contract. Read More

QB Terrelle Pryor tested in first start as Raiders limps into offseason

Terrelle Pryor found out what it’s like to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Pryor made his first career start, in place of injured Carson Palmer, in the Raiders’ 24-21 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. He threw his first two career touchdown passes and scored on a 3-yard run. Read More
